Get rid of Lactose Intolerance

Are you Lactose Intolerant? Do you know why you are Lactose Intolerant? Here’s some helpful information on what causes Lactose intolerance, and more importantly – how to prevent Lactose Intolerance.

Lactose

Lactose is the natural sugar that is found in milk (and products that have milk in them, like yoghurt and cheese). Our body’s naturally have what is called Lactase, which is an enzyme found in our intestines that break down the lactose and allow us to absorb the nutrients for our body.

Lactose Intolerance

As you get older, lactase is not found in abundance in your intestine like it was when you were younger. When you don’t have enough enzymes to break down the lactase, the lactase passes through the intestine and into the colon carrying extra fluid in it. Bacteria in the colon break down the lactase into gasses and lactic acid, which is a laxative and irritant. Many you have lactose intolerance will suffer with cramping, diarrhea, gas, and bloating.

Those who are lactose intolerant seem to have different levels of sensitivity to milk products. While some might have issues with any milk products whatsoever, others who are still lactose intolerant are still able to digest small amounts of milk products without having digestive issues.

Get rid of Lactose Intolerance

•Drink Raw Milk - Raw milk has the necessary enzymes needed to digest the milk, unlike most milk products which are made with pasteurized milk. Pasteurized milk is heated and kills the enzymes which allow you to digest the milk, leaving you lactose intolerant.

•Lactose Free Diet- If you are willing to do this, it works. If you just stop consuming milk products your symptoms will go away since the lactase in your body was causing the problems all along. Of course, there are other ways for you to consume milk products without having the horrible symptoms of lactose intolerance.

•Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) – This is a technique that balances your energy meridians, which can be helpful in releasing your body’s sensitivities to allergies, including lactose intolerance. This is a technique that you can learn how to do yourself. For more information on how to treat your intolerance to milk, check out Carol Tuttle’s website for more information on EFT.

Sorbet Bar-Organic Blackberry by Julie’s Organic

1Blackberry Bar FrontThis sorbet bar is absolutely amazing, and I have nothing but good to say about this frozen dessert!

First of all, it tastes great. And not only does it taste great, but it has great a great texture (almost like a fruit smoothie, but thicker since it is a sorbet bar). I bought this Sorbet Bar for an event, and people were shocked that this was not only Organic, but actually Healthy! For some reason people have this horrible misconception that Healthy Food has to taste bad. This is another reason why I started this Blog. I want to raise awareness to others to let them know about great tasting products that are actually good for you (or at least better than the competitor!).

The best part about this treat, is that it is pretty much guilt free. It is made with real fruit, and  it is cholesterol free. For those who are lactose intolerant, this is also labeled as non dairy. Also, a very obvious comment is that it is certified organic.

Anyone who is on a diet, this is a great suggestion considering it is well under 100 calories. This is something you can enjoy with out feeling deprived as well as something you will not feel guilty for indulging.

Enjoy!

Healthier and Tastier Popcorn

Healthy Popcorn
Ingredients:

1/2 cup Popcorn Kernels

2-3 tablespoons Coconut Oil

Sea Salt (to taste)

Serves: 4-6 cups of cooked popcorn

Instructions:

Step 1) Put a large pot (with lid) on the stove, and turn to  medium heat.

Side Notes: If you are wondering why I am not asking you to use a microwave, please read about the Harmful effects of the Microwave.

Step 2) Add the coconut oil to the pan, and coat the bottom of the pan.

Step 3) Add popcorn kernels to the the pot, and put the lid back on the pot.  Soon, you will notice the kernels starting to pop, and allow them to do just that!

Step 4) Once the popping starts to slow down, remove the pot from heat. There still may be some popcorn kernels popping, and that’s OK. It is better to have some kernels not pop, then all the kernels pop and you get burnt popcorn.

Step 5) Once you have removed the popcorn from the heat of the stove, add the salt to taste, and stir the popcorn as you add on the salt.

Side Notes

I use Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil rather than butter! But….why? Coconut oil is one of the few (perhaps only) oils that are still good for you when heated. If you are worried about the taste, do not worry! I discovered this way of making popcorn when I looking for a better solution to butter. When you cook your popcorn with Coconut Oil, the popcorn actually taste as if I cooked it with butter- without the effects of butter!

I use Real Salt, by Redmond. This is the only Salt I use, and I love it for not only it’s taste, but wonderful Health benefits.

Health Benefits of Popcorn

Popcorn is high in Fiber, which helps with your digestion. Popcorn also is considered a “Whole Grain”. As long as you don’t drench it in butter, preservatives, and other harmful ingredients (think Movie Popcorn), then you should feel good about your snacking choice. Another great benefit to popcorn, is that it is a low calorie snack.

Creamed Wheat Cereal

Ingredients:

2 cups Water

1/2 cup Whole Wheat Farina

2 tablespoons Creamed Honey

1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon

Instructions:

1) Boil the water in a saucepan.

2)Slowly add the wheat farina while stirring the water. Once all of the wheat farina has been added to the pan, remove from heat and continue stirring.

3) Add creamed honey and cinnamon.

4) Divide the hot cereal between two bowls and serve.

Notes:

Cereal will be hot, so let stand for a little bit to cool down so it won’t be so hot. The amount of creamed honey and cinnamon are really “to taste”, so the measurements provided are more of a guide of how much you may want to add.
