10 Ways to Stay On Track with Your Weight Loss Goals

Staying on track with your weight loss goals can be difficult at times, but it’s not impossible. Here are ten ways to help you stay motivated and stay on track with your weight loss goals!

Plan Meals

This will help you to stay within your calorie budget each day. Make sure to be prepared and have healthy snacks and meals ready at all times. A good example of this is keeping freshly cut fruit and veggies in the fridge.

Accountability

You will be surprised at how much this can help you.  Build a support system of people who have similar goals and are working towards the same thing. If you surround yourself with people who are also trying to stay on track, you will be less likely to make poor eating choices or skip a workout.

Record Progress

Regularly weighing yourself, tracking your calories, recording your workouts, and taking measurements can help you stay on track. It will also show where you are, how far you’ve come, and how close you are to your goal.

Know Yourself

If you know you can’t resist brownies or you can’t wake up for an early morning workout at the gym, work those things into your plan.  Budget in the brownie and schedule the gym later in the day.  It’s not worth it to lose your control with food or to pass up a workout.

Eat More

It’s amazing what this can do!  If you do not take in enough calories, it doesn’t matter how many miles you run or minutes you spend on the elliptical – you will not lose weight (fat)! If you do see numbers on the scale eventually fall, it could be muscle or bone mass. Your body needs healthy calories to function, so make sure you’re eating enough every day.  This will prevent you from setting yourself up for a binge.

Staying motivated

Sometimes it’s difficult to maintain the excitement you felt when you first made your goals.  When the going gets tough, remember why you set those goals in the first place.  Remember what you are trying to accomplish and remind yourself that what you do today will pay off in six months!

Reward

Okay, I never reward myself with food since I don’t want to look at unhealthy treats as a reward to myself.  It’s easy to get excited when you reward yourself from time to time for all the hard work you’re doing.  Here are a few ideas you can treat yourself to: buy some new workout gear, get a massage, or maybe buy a new book you have wanted.

Exhaust Every Avenue

Don’t ever give up. If you find yourself slipping into a slump, try everything you can to stay on track. Make sure to commit to a minimum amount of exercise each week.  Here are a few ideas that can help you reach your fitness goals:

• Hire a personal trainer

• Find a workout partner

• Try something new like a spin class or particular sport

Lose the Excuses

Think positive thoughts and hold on to what inspires you rather than make excuses for yourself to skip the gym or eat unhealthy. Every day is going to be different; and what motivated you yesterday may not work today.  You may want to try on those pants you’ve been dying to fit into.  Always keep yourself motivated.

Have Consequences

There are consequences to everything in life.  If you skip workouts or practice poor eating habits, you won’t reach your goals.  That’s the hard truth.  Never miss out on what you REALLY want for what you want right now (extra sleep or that greasy cheeseburger, for example).  If you miss a workout or eat unhealthy, there should be a consequence that will hold you accountable.
