Sour Gummy Fruit Snacks

Gummy Fruit Snack_1

I love fruit snacks, but they can be a bit expensive when you buy “the healthy kind” at the health food store or they just have too much sugar in them (organic or not…it’s still sugar and I don’t want to give it to my little one).

I decided it was time to make some homemade gummy fruit snacks for my daughter. I tried it out, and I was so happen when my little one gobbled them up! I ended up trying a few for myself, and ended up making a second batch the same day. It tasted good – in addition to being super healthy (and easy to make)!

Something else I am super excited about…these have fresh lemon juice in them! They are full of Vitamin C! Whenever I am sick, I drink lemon juice several times throughout the day, and it’s a quick way for me to recover! I didn’t think that my daughter would drink lemon juice when she’s sick, but she will definitely eat these sour gummy fruit snacks!

Sour Gummy Fruit Snacks

Ingredients:

• 2/3 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice (about 4 large lemons – be sure to remove any seeds)

• 6 tablespoons unflavored Gelatin

• 6 tablespoons raw honey

• 6 drops  dōTERRA Wild Orange Essential Oil  (if you use another food-grade orange oil, use 12 drops since the dōTERRA oils are really strong)

Instructions:

Step 1) Whisk together the lemon juice, gelatin, and raw honey in a sauce pain on medium heat. Don’t let it boil, just warm it up and make sure there aren’t any clumps from the gelatin.

Step 2) Remove from heat and add the orange oil in the sauce pain and stir well.

Step 3) Pour mixture in silicone mold(s) and put in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Once they are firm, they will stay firm at room temperature.

Store these gummy fruit snacks in the fridge for up to two weeks. You’ll probably eat them up sooner than that though ;)

I used the Casabella Silicone Ice Cube Tray for my gummy snacks, and it was the perfect size for my daughter (who is almost a year and a half).

You can individually fill up each section of the tray or just carefully fill up the whole thing. I tried it both ways and seriously, they both work just fine. The section that everything was filled in together, it was like a candy bar…you just break off one piece at a time.
