Health Benefits of Oregano Oil

• Strong antibacterial and antiviral properties.

• A natural antibiotic! There are even some farmers who are turning to oregano – instead of antibiotics – to keep their chickens healthy.

• antimicrobial, which is an agent that kills microorganisms or inhibits their growth. There’s a recent study that shows that Oregano essential oil was found (along with a couple other spice and herb essential oils) to have the strongest antimicrobial properties.

• Contain Carvacrol and Thymol, which have been found to aid digestion, calm upset stomachs,  and  inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

• Helps maintain respiratory health.

• Can help treat skin infections and itchy skin.

• High in antioxidant activity, Oregano essential oil contains antimicrobial properties that can help fight colds and coughs, improve digestive issues, and can support your immune and respiratory systems.

• Boosts your immune system.

How to Use Oregano Oil

Oregano Oil is very caustic (strong), and should be diluted with a carrier oil when applying to the skin. I use 1 drop of Oregano Essential Oil for every 10 ‘drops’ of coconut oil (My coconut oil isn’t measured in drops, but hopefully you get the point). Oregano Essential Oil is very strong and needs to be diluted, otherwise, it will burn your skin.

If you feel a cold or flu coming on, put Oregano Essential Oil and a carrier oil (like coconut oil or olive oil) and rub at the bottom of your feet. Go ahead and put some socks on to prevent making a mess! ;)

Why put oil on the bottom of your feet? That’s because your feet’s pores are larger than other parts of your body, which allows for the oil to get absorbed into your body quickly. Once you put the oil on your feet, it can take less than 20 minutes to get into your blood stream and start working it’s magic.

When used aromatically (you can use a diffuser), Oregano essential oil can help decrease airborne pathogens and boost immunity.

My Experience with Oregano Oil

In the last year, I have personally learned just how amazing Oregano Essential Oil really is.  I already knew about Oregano from a previous post I had written for SkinnyTwinkie.com, but I didn’t really know how to benefit from it when I was sick.

Earlier this year, I was visiting my sister in Vegas and my daughter got sick while we were on the trip. My sister had some essential oils and recommended that I put the oregano oil on her feet morning, noon, and night (or at least morning and night). It felt like voodoo. It didn’t feel like it was going to work. Isn’t that funny? Anyways, it DID work! I saw such a huge change in my daughter’s temperament and I was impressed with how quickly she was recovering. From that point on, I was a believer and I started to buy essential oils to keep my family healthy and happy.

Oregano Essential Oil Works. It’s effective. It’s a wonderful natural antibiotic, but it’s also antiviral – you don’t have to wonder if your illness is bacterial or viral – oregano essential oil will work in both cases.

I want to hear from you! Have you tried Oregano Essential Oil – or any other Essential Oils? How has your experience been?
