Are You Too Old To Exercise?

Are you ever too old to exercise? Nope. Here’s some amazing examples of men and women who are exercising well past their 70′s!
Bette Calman – This amazing woman (shown in picture above) is an absolute inspiration at 86 years old! She has been teaching yoga for over 40 years and still teaches yoga classes every week.
“You’re never too old. The body is a remarkable instrument…’It can stretch and stretch, and get better all the time. Forget age”- Bette Calman, The Daily Mail
Jack LaLanne – One of the most widely known fitness, exercise, and nutrition experts, Jack LaLanne was known as someone who practiced what he preached. He continued his two hour workouts well into his 90′s, even up until he died at the age of 97. Jack proved that regular exercise, including cardio and weight lifting, was something that could be accomplished at any age.
Sensei Keiko Fukuda - This woman is the first to have earned the title of tenth-degree black belt in Judo, which is something she has recently accomplished – at the age of 98!
B.K.S. Iyengar – This legendary yogi is 94 years old and has plenty to say and show for the health benefits of Yoga.
“Yoga, an ancient but perfect science, deals with the evolution of humanity. This evolution includes all aspects of one’s being, from bodily health to self-realization. Yoga means union — the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life and endows skill in the performance of one’s actions.” - B.K.S. Iyengar, Mind Body Green
Lew Hollander - He is only the second 80 year old that has completed the Ford Ironman World Championship, which consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile marathon.
Bernice Bates - Practicing and teaching yoga since the 60′s, Bernice says that she will never stop doing yoga. She credits yoga for her incredible health, which is no wonder why she has no plans of slowing down now!
“I think yoga is the best exercise there is. I’ve never had anything I had to go to the doctor for, except checkups. That should say something.” - Bernice Bates, MSNBC
Ernestine Shepherd – It’s never too late to start exercising, which is something that Ernestine proves! She didn’t start her bodybuilding career at the age of 71 (now 75), and is now fitter than she has ever been and is an inspirational role model for people of all ages.
Age isn’t what stops you from exercising…

Jillian Michaels Understands Other Mom’s Weight Loss Struggles
Jillian Michaels is famous for being the tough personal trainer yelling at contestants on The Biggest Loser to help them reach their weight loss goals. Now, as a new mom to a newborn son and to an adopted two year old girl from Haiti, Jillian is finally realizing how hard it is to follow her own advice.
Put Yourself First?
“Telling moms ‘You need to put yourself first’?” Jillian Michaels said, rolling her eyes. “It’s impossible to put yourself first when your a mom.”
Jillian admitted to the Daily Mail that she hasn’t been to the gym for two weeks, or since her newborn was born (which her partner gave birth to, not Jillian) .
Jillian Understands…
It’s safe to say that Jillian finally understands how difficult it may be for a new mom to hit the gym and lose weight – which is something she just couldn’t grasp in the past. This is great, since she will be able to relate better to her clients that are parents.
Of course, we all know that Jillian will get back into an exercise routine sooner rather than later and she will now be able to say, “I’m a mom. If I can find time to exercise, so can you!”. Truth is, she’ll be right. It may take some major adjustments when you add a little one into your life, but that doesn’t mean you give up on exercising and eating healthy. Give yourself time to adjust to your new schedule, and just make it happen!
How do you think Jillian will change (if at all) as a trainer now that she is a new Mom of two?

Cost of Dinner for Four
When people say they don’t eat healthy, the most common excuse is that they just can’t afford to eat healthy.
When you learn how to cook your own meals, you’ll find that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to eat healthy. This price comparison proves my point perfectly:

Berry Smoothie

I love berry smoothies since it’s the perfect way to cool down on hot Summer days and still satisfy that sweet tooth!
Ingredients:
1 cup Mixed Berries, frozen
1 cup yogurt, plain
Instructions
Step 1) In a blender, mix both ingredients together until smooth.
Notes:
For the mixed berries, I include frozen strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries.
I prefer the 50-50 ration, but you can always change up the ratio of frozen berries to yogurt to add to take away some of the sweetness (more berries = more sweet). Enjoy!
