Shredded Wheat by Barbara’s

Posted by on Jun 25, 2012 in Twinkie's Favorites | 2 comments

What’s for breakfast? I don’t have cold cereal for breakfast too often, but when I do, I prefer to have a healthy – and tasty! – option. Why Barbara’s Shredded Wheat Cereal? I think we’ve all had shredded wheat cereal at one point or another. Most brands will tout their “Whole Grain” status, yet they fail to mention how many additional ingredients (like sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and preservatives like BHT) they have added to convince you to buy and eat their product. Barbara’s doesn’t need to add anything extra to their cereal to convince you to buy their product. The product sells itself from the quality ingredients used and the way they make their shredded wheat. They steam whole wheat berries, shredding them and lightly baking them for a naturally sweet and hearty high-fiber breakfast. No added...

Coconut Water by Vita Coco®

Posted by on Jan 30, 2012 in Twinkie's Favorites | Comments Off on Coconut Water by Vita Coco®

Vita Coco’s an all-natural, super-hydrating, fat-free, cholesterol-free, nutrient-packed, potassium-stacked, mega-electrolyte coconut water! What is Coconut Water? Many people seem to get coconut water a little mixed up with coconut milk, but there’s a big difference between the two. Coconut water comes from inside younger coconuts filled with a clear, electrolyte-rich juice that contains zero fat and zero cholesterol. Coconut milk is what is produced from grating the coconut meat of older, brown coconuts: a white, rich liquid containing oils and fat, and often used as an ingredient in cooking and baking. Health Benefits of Coconut Water Coconut water is loaded with potassium (more than two bananas!), which is a great way to keep the body hydrated naturally and prevents cramping. Coconut water naturally contains more electrolytes than leading sports drinks – without any of the added sugars or processed...

Raspberry Fig Bars by Barbara’s

Posted by on Dec 3, 2011 in Twinkie's Favorites | Comments Off on Raspberry Fig Bars by Barbara’s

If you love fig bars but don’t want to eat all of the added sugars, you should give Raspberry Fig Bars by Barbara’s a try! Health Benefits of Figs First, let’s talk about some of the  health benefits associated with figs. Figs are full of important nutrients including fiber, potassium, calcium, and antioxidants. Figs have been shown to lower triglyceride levels, which helps prevent obesity and heart-related diseases. Why Barbara’s Fig Bars? The reason I originally bought Barbara’s Fig Bars is because of the ingredients list at the back of the package. There are only natural fruits and juices to sweeten the fig bars rather than high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, and sugar. I checked out the ingredients list of other brands of “all natural” or “organic” fig bars in the health food store, but didn’t end up buying them...

Panda Licorice

I love black licorice, and I’m so happy that I found Panda! It’s the only brand that I am aware of (hopefully not the only one) that makes black licorice that I can eat without the guilt. Other “all natural” licorice that I have found are loaded with corn syrup or other junk. Panda’s all natural licorice is a great low calorie treat that has no white sugar or artificial ingredients added! The soft texture and delicious taste isn’t anything to complain about either. The only reason someone wouldn’t like this is if they just aren’t fond of black licorice. Panda has been producing the world’s leading premium quality, soft licorice with real licorice root extract since 1927. Panda Licorice is made from All Natural ingredients. It doesn’t contain fat, preservatives, artificial colors, flavors or white sugar. It has...

Unsulfured Apricots by Trader Joe’s

Posted by on Sep 12, 2011 in Twinkie's Favorites | Comments Off on Unsulfured Apricots by Trader Joe’s

I love dried apricots….you know, the ones that taste like you made them all by yourself in your handy dandy dehydrator. I don’t like the squishy apricots that have plenty of sulfur added, since it ruins the texture, taste, and everything else I love about dried apricots. Problem is, dried apricots with nothing added are hard to come by. Fortunately for you and me, Trader Joe’s sells Unsulfured Apricots that are quite delicious and reasonable priced! Feel free to follow us, however you...

Coconut Spray Oil by Spectrum®

Posted by on Jul 14, 2011 in Twinkie's Favorites | Comments Off on Coconut Spray Oil by Spectrum®

I love spray oils for a lot of reasons. With spray cans, you end up using less oil. It’s great for greasing pans. It’s easy, and you don’t need to use any extra utensils. The problem with spray oils? A lot of spray oils available on the market today use vegetable oil. You know how I feel about that, right? I recently found Spectrum’s Coconut Spray Oil, which is made with organic refined coconut oil and is naturally expeller-pressed from organically grown coconuts. This is fantastic news because I love coconut oil! This spray oil has a clean and natural flavor, and it’s great for multiple uses. Need to cook eggs? Just spray the pan! Need to bake muffins? Spray the little tin cups! This is a wonderful find, and I hope you are as excited as I am! (I seriously wish...
