Heidi Klum recently completed the Master Cleanse program to start her New Year with a healthy detox. Heidi documented her journey on her Instagram account.

For the first day of the Master Cleanse, Heidi posted this picture of the ingredients needed for the detox: Lemons, Cayenne Pepper, and Organic Maple Syrup.

Day 2 of the Master Cleanse, Heidi posted a picture of her sipping her cleanse.

On Day 3 of the cleanse, Heidi shared a picture of her  on the go with her cleanse in tow.

On Day 5, Heidi shared a picture stating, “Day 5, back to solid food”. You can see that she enjoyed 3 soft boiled eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado.

It doesn’t look like Heidi did the full program, since she was already back on solid foods by Day 5. Considering she is already is great shape, she probably just wanted to lose a few pounds to get back in shape after enjoying the holidays.

Heidi Klum isn’t the only celebrity who has tried the Master Cleanse to lose weight quickly. Beyonce reportedly also did the Master Cleanse to lose 20 pounds for her role in Dream Girls.

I personally feel that the Master Cleanse can be healthy, if done for only a day or two. I don’t think it’s necessary or all that healthy to only consume just lemons, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper for days on end. Your body needs a variety of nutrients – including healthy fat – to be healthy. If you stick to an extreme diet for a long period of time, it can actually do more harm than good. Yes, you may lose the fat, but you can also do damage to your heart.

My take: The Master Cleanse should only be done for a day or just a few days (with supervision from a licensed nutritionist or doctor). Personally, I do something similar to the Master Cleanse on a daily basis, except it’s not all that extreme! First thing in the morning I do a little detox by drinking freshly squeezed lemon juice with cayenne pepper and water. I do this about 30 minutes before I eat my breakfast. It’s a great way to cleanse your liver and kidneys and balance your body’s PH balance.
